QUESTION:

Hello, my name is M*** and my grandmother is suffering for glaucoma. One of her eyes has lost total vision and the other one is soon going to be lost too. Is there anyway she could be able to get treated and have her sight back?

ANSWER:

I’m very sorry to hear about your grandmother. Glaucoma is a truly awful disease in that once vision is lost we don’t currently have any proven way to restore the vision that has been lost. We can, however, limit further loss which is why it is so important that she be regularly seen by an ophthalmologist.

Although I’d be happy to perform an exam I would imagine that (if she also lives in the Carlsbad area) she would desire to avoid traveling up to Los Angeles. I can, however, recommend two very skilled ophthalmologists closer to you:

Shervin Alborzian, MD (La Jolla)
Tory Prestera, MD (San Marcos)
